Hi, I’m Dr. Amy Ayers

This isn’t just a veterinary practice—it’s a reflection of what I believe in. I’m here to provide work that matters, led by a commitment to quality and compassionate care for both you and your beloved pet.

My Approach

Saying goodbye is never easy. In-home hospice and euthanasia gives your pet gentle, dignified care in the comfort of their familiar surroundings. As a licensed veterinarian, I come to your home to explain the process, prioritize your pet’s comfort and your family’s emotional needs, and honour your wishes for aftercare. I strive to make your companion’s final moments peaceful, private and respectful — giving you the space to say farewell with love and dignity.

Simple idea

I provide compassionate in‑home hospice and euthanasia services for cats and dogs so your beloved companion can be surrounded by the comfort and love of home during their final moments.

Lasting impact

In-home hospice care supports comfort, symptom management, and preserves quiet, meaningful moments together. A positive euthanasia experience brings calm and dignity. With clear communication, integrity, and attentive compassion, I honour the bond between pet and family—providing thoughtful, individualized care for a peaceful, respectful farewell.

My Story

After graduating in 2014 from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) in Saskatoon, I began practicing veterinary medicine in the Kootenays and instantly fell in love with the area.

My veterinary journey, however, started much earlier. An animal lover and horseback rider from an early age, it was during my formative years when I discovered my calling somewhere among the pages of a James Herriot novel. This motivated me in 2003 to volunteer and eventually work at the Williams Lake Veterinary Hospital during high school. I went on to acquire a Bachelor of Science majoring in Chemistry from the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George as a recipient of the UNBC Scholars scholarship. My formal education continued at the WCVM where I graduated with the Vandi Award for Excellence for outstanding quality, care, and patient advocacy. During my time in vet school, I worked every winter and summer break in the college’s teaching hospitals, receiving valuable experience, training and mentorship from my professors and clinical advisors beyond the core curriculum.

After graduation I put this training into practice working at several local clinics, both as a staff veterinarian and as a locum. During this time, I observed a growing need within the community for families faced with the difficult decision to say goodbye to their beloved pets and being met with limited options or long wait times. This inspired me to start Ayers Veterinary Services, a limited scope mobile vet practice offering in-home, compassionate and peaceful end of life care for pets and their families. My areas of professional interest include patient advocacy, Fear Free veterinary care and client education.

I share my home with my spouse Dean, our two daughters, two dogs, two cats and several fish. I still enjoy a good novel—whether by James Herriot or other authors—and loving animals. My interests have matured with me and now include gardening and sourdough baking. Also a photographer, my goal is to eventually offer pet portrait sessions as well.
